Hole 12 – Royal County Down
Another of Northern Ireland's delights Royal County Down is a pleasure to play. The 12th hole, at 525 yards is a tough par 5 that I've made very undulating. An uphill drive must miss the bunkers left and right and will undoubtedly leave you with a blind second shot. You must then decide whether to attack the narrow approach to a slightly plateaued green or pick your way between four bunkers to leave a full pitch in. The latter option will leave you at the lowest point of the fairway and means that the bottom of the pin is obscured from view. The green rises slightly to the back and then falls dramatically away. |
