British Isles Golf Course
Hole 2 – Carnoustie
Carnoustie has been described as 'a big shaggy monster' and it's easy to see why. A brute of a course when the weather is bad, and that's often, it bared all of it's teeth in the 1999 Open Championship where Jean Van de Velde had his nightmare in the Barry Burn allowing Paul Lawrie to steal the title in the play-off. I've taken one of the toughest par 4 holes anywhere in the world and adapted it for this course. Your drive must clear Braid's bunker and then you are faced with a long second shot down a narrow fairway. The original hole has a large two-tiered bunker, but I have taken the tier out and replaced with more of a rolling green in order to reduce the penalty for being 40 yards short of the pin but still putting ! |
